Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight at Oneonta, 8-1

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team earned its third straight victory with a dominant 8-1 win over SUNY Oneonta in the team's regular-season non-conference finale on Thursday afternoon at Oneonta's Dr. Heissan Courts.

With the win, Union (7-7) moves into a tie for second place on the school single-season wins list with the most victories in a season since 2005-06 (7-5). The team is one back of the program record of eight wins (8-1) set in 1974.

Nine different players played a role in Union's eight victories on the day, with senior Aidan O'Brien the only Union player to earn a pair of victories against the Red Dragons.

Union started the day by taking two of the three doubles matches to grab an early lead. Junior Bailey McAtee and sophomore Austin Gregory broke the ice with their third straight third-doubles victory, 8-4 over Noah Khair and Joshua Mann, followed by O'Brien and sophomore Seth Prusko knocking off August LePique and William Schmid by an 8-2 score.

The visitors followed up by sweeping all six singles matches to secure the win, with no player losing more than four games. Senior Thomas McGuire improved to 7-4 at sixth singles with a double-bagel win over Mann, followed soon after by O'Brien with a 6-0, 6-2 fourth-singles win over Schmid. Sophomore Ian Schunk clinched the win at fifth singles, defeating Khair by a 6-0, 6-1 score.

Junior Dimitris Binopoulos got back to his winning ways with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Mason Spottek at second singles, followed by sophomore Ben Jacobs besting LePique at the top flight, 6-1, 6-2, for his third straight victory. Junior Khai Ton finished off the match with his 10th singles win of the year, defeating Jacob Dornsife at third singles, 6-3, 6-1.

Union will close out the regular season on Sunday with a Liberty League matchup at #34 Skidmore College beginning at 9 a.m.
