– The Union College softball team earned a Liberty League split as they faced off against Skidmore College on Friday afternoon from Wagner Park. The Dutchwomen lost game one 3-2, before responding and winning game two 7-6.

Saunders also tied the Union College Softball 32 year long single season stolen bases record with her 15th and 16th stolen bases this afternoon. Saunders tied Robin Romer who also had 16 stolen bases in 1991.
Game One: Skidmore College 3, Union College 2
In game all of the runs were scored in the first two innings of action. Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening half inning. Senior
Amanda Granato opened the game with a single to center field. Sophomore
Melody Kappel walked to put runners of first and second.
Senior
Karson Saunders reached on a fielder's choice and Granato advanced to third. Saunders then stole second base and Granato scored from third on an error from the shortstop. Saunders also advanced to third on the throwing error. Senior
Olivia Valery grounded out to the short stop and scored Saunders to give Union a 2-0 lead.
Skidmore were able to even the scored in the bottom of the first inning off of four hits, leaving two runners on base.
With the scored tied 2-2, Union found themselves with the bases loaded and two outs, but were unable to score. The Thoroughbreds grabbed their first lead of the game on a sac fly, making it 3-2 Skidmore after two innings of play.
Union lost game one 3-2. Granato (3-6) was credited with the loss, throwing six innings of action and striking out two batters, while allowing three runs.
Game Two: Union College 7, Skidmore College 6
Just like game one, the Dutchwomen plated the game's first run. Granato worked a walk to put Union's first runner on base. Senior
Tara Hartnett pushed Granato to second with a sac bunt. Saunders batted and roped a single to center field and score Granato in the process for a 1-0 lead. Saunders stole second base, which pushed her into a tie with Robin Romer in 1991 who has 16 stolen bases.
Skidmore pulled even with Union with a single to right field to tie the game at 1-1. Union regained their lead with a three run second inning. Sophomore
Nahnny Sobetzko singled to start the inning, classmate
Tatum Perkins also singled to put runners on first and second.
Autumn Duff reached on a fielder's choice and advanced Sobetzko to third. Sophomore
Melody Kappel singled to center field and scored Sobetzko to make it 2-1.
Granato then singled to center field to load the bases. Hartnett hit her second sac fly of the game and scored Duff from third. Saunders singled for the second time in as many innings, and scored Kappel. Union led 4-1.
The Thoroughbreds scored two runs in the second inning on three hits, to only trail 4-3 after two innings. Union extended the lead to 5-3 after Valery and first-year
Ellie Wintringer each reached base. Valery scored off a single from Sobetzko.
Skidmore pulled back within a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double, cutting it to 5-4 Union. The Dutchwomen plated two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore
Riley Callahan singled to open the inning. Kappel reached on an error off a sac bunt and advanced to second. Callahan scored on a throwing error. Granato singled to left field and scored Kappel, giving Union a 7-4 lead.
The Thoroughbreds looked for a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, but were only able to score two runs, before falling 7-6 to Union in game two.
Duff (3-3) earned her third win of the season, throwing four innings and striking out two batters. Kappel (1) earned her first save of the season, pitching in three innings and striking out three while allowing two runs on two hits.
Union will continue Liberty League play as they take on cross town rival RPI for a doubleheader in Troy, starting at 1 p.m.
