AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team fell in a nonconference game to Middlebury College, 14-1, Wednesday evening at Shuttleworth Park.
Senior
Jono Santos went 2-for-4 at the plate while first-year
Cooper Ames went 1-for-3. Senior
Jack Milone scored Union's lone run in the loss.
The visiting Panthers (11-4) plated eight runs in the first four innings. Middlebury tacked on two runs in the sixth and capped off the scoring with four runs in the eighth, including a three-run homerun.
Union broke the shutout bid in the bottom of the eighth inning. Milone drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. The senior moved to third after classmate
Colby Nash was tagged out at first. A passed ball one batter later gave Milone time to cross home.
After missing his junior year due to injury, senior
Matt Beazoglou earned the start, pitching two innings and allowing three runs on three hits while striking out three. First-year
Jack Klein pitched two scoreless and hitless innings in relief with one strikeout. First-year
Andrew Keaveney gave up one hit in one inning and sophomore
Alex Erickson fanned three in 1.1 scoreless innings.
Union looks to bounce back on Friday in a Liberty League matchup against Bard College. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park.
