SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College softball team rebounded from a tough game 1 loss and cruised to an 8-3 win over Middlebury College on Friday afternoon from Alexander Field. Union dropped game one 13-3 before winning game two 8-3. Senior
Karson Saunders went 3-7 in the double header with a home run, four RBI, and a walk. First-year
Ellie Wintringer went 3-8 with a double and an RBI.
Game 1: Middlebury College 13, Union College 3
Neither team was able to grab a lead through the first two innings. Union (5-9) earned their first lead of the afternoon in the bottom half of the third inning. Senior
Tara Hartnett doubled to kick start the inning with one out. Hartnett moved to third place on a ground out. Saunders singled and scored Hartnett to grab a 1-0 Union lead. Classmate
Olivia Valery singled in Saunders to double Union's lead.
Middlebury (11-7) answered with three runs in the fourth inning for earn their first lead of the afternoon. The Panthers scored in each of the remaining inning with a run in the fifth, five in the sixth inning, and four more runs in the seventh inning to lead 13-2.
Union scored one more run off the bat of Saunders that scored Hartnett. Union lost 13-3 in game one.
Senior
Amanda Granato (2-4) was tabbed with the loss. She allowed seven hits and three runs in four innings pitched for Union. Sophomore

Riley Jahnle each shared time in relief for Union.
Game 2: Union College 8, Middlebury College 3
After a quick 1-2-3 inning to open the game for Union. The Dutchwomen put up crooked number and leaped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. Granato reached first after a dropped fly ball. Kappel pushed Granato to second base with a sac bunt. Saunders then launched a ball over the left field wall to give Union a 2-0 lead. Valery and Wintringer hit back to back singles. Sophomore
Nahnny Sobetzko then doubled to right center, scoring Valery from second base.
After a pitching change Sobetzko and Wintringer both advanced on wild pitches. Sophomore
Tatum Perkins walked and Sobetzko scored on the pass ball. Hartnett was hit by a pitch. Granato singled to right field and scored from second base to give Union a 6-0 lead. Union earned one more run in the inning after Saunders drew a walk with the bases loaded to score the seventh run after batting around in the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Union continued to score runs with another one. Wintringer doubled to kick off the inning. She then advanced to third on a pass ball and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Perkins, giving Union an 8-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Middlebury cut into Union's lead with a sac fly, making it 8-1. The Panthers added two more runs over the next four innings to finish the game 8-3 and helping Union to a split over Middlebury.
Sophomore
Autumn Duff earned her first win of the season, throwing a 106-pitch complete game. She struck out three batters in the win for Union.
Union will hit the road and travel to North Adams, Mass., and face off against the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday, April 11. First-pitch of game 1 is set fo
