Volleyball Recognized with AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Union College women's volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 season, the association announced last week.

The team is honored for the fifth straight season and the eighth time in the last 10 years. To be recognized, collegiate and high school volleyball teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale during the school year, making the standard one of the highest among collegiate coaching associations.

Union finished the 2022-23 school year with a team GPA of 3.44 over the three trimesters to easily meet the high standard. Eight of the team's 16 players finished the year with a cumulative GPA above 3.50, as well as 13 student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA.

The team also achieved success on the court under first-year head coach Annie DeLoid in 2022, reaching the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since 2016 and earning the program's first postseason victory since 2015 with a first-round upset win.
