SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior
Robbie Michalski led all players with three goals and an assist as the Union College men's soccer team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at College Park Field.
Michalski exploded for the first hat trick of his career and added an assist for a career-high seven points, scoring three times in the first 22 minutes of the contest. First-years
Luke Ingber and
Marco Perugini both recorded four points apiece, with Ingber scoring twice and Perugini adding a goal and two assists. Juniors
Wyatt Goldfisher and
Aiden Normand and sophomore
Lucas Montalto all found the net for Union (2-2-1) as well in the win.
As a team, Union outshot Albany Pharmacy by a 28-2 margin and forced keeper Ryan Herrick to make 11 saves.
Michalski got Union on the board in the fourth minute, when he headed home a cross by senior
Luca Richo from the top of the six-yard box. Less than two minutes later, Michalski was on the other end when he fed a pass into the middle for Ingber to deposit his first collegiate goal at the 5:50 mark. Ingber added another 2:55 later when he made a great individual effort to reach the near endline before threading a shot between Herrick and the post.
Michalski and Perugini paired up twice later in the frame, with the senior taking passes from the first-year to score in the 18th and 22nd minutes to make it a 5-0 lead. Perugini finished off the first-half scoring with one of his own in the 24th minute, sending a free kick into the top-right corner for his second goal of the year.
Union added three more tallies in the second half to complete the scoring. Goldfisher scored his third goal of the season in the 47th minute, and the teams went nearly 30 scoreless minutes before Normand deposited the first goal of his career in the 76th minute. Montalto added his first college goal with under three minutes remaining after some pretty passing from first-year
Declan Crowley and junior
Diego Pascual-Sanchiz.
First-year
Paul Agne got the start in goal and did not face an on-target attempt in 76:31 of action, while classmate
Nate Bott made his collegiate debut over the final 13:29.
Union will return to action on Saturday at Plattsburgh State University beginning at 1 p.m.
