Berliner Posts Career Day in Shutout, Draw with Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Union College Garnet Chargers picked up their first point in the 2023 Liberty League standings Saturday, batting Vassar to a scoreless draw in Poughkeepsie.

Rachel Berliner saw a career-high 15 shots in the contest, but stood tall in net to post her first career shutout and tie another career-high with seven saves (October 4th, 2022, against Hamilton College). She especially rose to the task in the final minutes, as Vassar had three corner kicks in the final four minutes, and Berliner tipped a shot from distance over the crossbar with under a minute left to preserve the tie.

Sam Friedman and Meg Piser led the Union offense with two shots apiece.

Union returns to non-conference action when they travel to Springfield, Massachusetts, on Wednesday to face Western New England. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
