Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Union College women's hockey team wrapped up a challenging season opening weekend Sunday afternoon, falling to #13 St. Cloud State by a score of 4-0.
First-year Monja Wagner drew the start in goal for Union, registering her first career start for the Garnet Chargers. The Romanshorn, Switzerland native stopped 34 of the shots she faced, registering a save percentage just under 90% in the contest.
The Huskies opened up the scoring a little over halfway through the first period, as Klára Hymlárová scored her first goal of the young season with 9:58 on the clock. For the second straight day, St. Cloud State scored with under a minute left in the opening period, as Laura Zimmermann potted her first goal.
Ella Anick and CC Bowlby would register their first goals of the campaign in the second period to provide the final score. Sanni Ahola stopped 18 shots for the hosts.
Union will travel home on Monday and turn their attention to Robert Morris, preparing for their home opener set for on Friday at Messa Rink. Puck drop of the weekend opener between the Garnet Chargers and Colonials is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
