Women's Soccer Cruises Past Bard in 6-0 Victory

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Senior Grace Penna and sophomore Taylor Bovardi both recorded a game-high five points with two goals and an assist to pace the Union College women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Bard College in a Liberty League matchup on Saturday afternoon at Ferrari Field.

Penna scored the first two goals of her collegiate career and Bovardi added her first career multi-goal game to lead Union (7-2-4, 1-1-2 Liberty League). Senior Sam Friedman and junior Anabelle Thomas both scored as well for the Garnet Chargers, as eight different players recorded at least one point.

Despite an 11-1 shot margin over the opening 45 minutes, Union only went into halftime with a one-goal lead. Friedman opened the scoring in the 24th minute, taking a pass from Bovardi and finding the net for the second time this season.

Union overcame the slow start with a dominating second half, outshooting Bard (2-8-1, 0-5-0 Liberty League) by a 23-0 margin and scoring five unanswered tallies. Bovardi needed just 52 seconds to score her first of the game, scoring off a pass from first-year Addison MacDonald to double the Union advantage. The sophomore struck again 4:57 later, getting the ball from the foot of sophomore Hannah Sams and finding the net again in the 51st minute.

The Garnet Chargers finished off the match with three goals in 130 seconds later in the stanza. Penna needed only 60 seconds to score twice, taking passes from sophomore Delaney McNinch and junior Sophia Surber at 79:12 and 80:12 to notch the first two goals of her collegiate career. Thomas capped the scoring 1:10 later off a Penna pass for her third goal of the year.

Union finished the match with a 34-1 edge in shots. Sophomore Maya Koster made one save in the first half to earn the win, followed by junior Rachel Berliner playing 36:08 and first-year Brooke Rosenshine playing the final 8:52 to preserve the shutout.

Union will finish off non-conference play tomorrow with a noon matchup against Hamilton College at College Park Field.
