Union Drops 4-1 Decision to #3 Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. – A three-goal flurry in the first period was the difference maker as the Union College men's hockey team (2-1-0) fell 4-1 to #3 Boston University (2-0-0) on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.

Junior Parker Lindauer was the lone goal scorer for the Garnet Chargers.

The Terriers scored three times in the first period to take a commanding 3-0 lead going into the first intermission. Union outshot the Terriers 10-3 in the first 8:30, but BU struck first with a goal from Shane Lachance. Alex Zetterberg made it 2-0 with a power-play goal and the eventual game-winning goal just under two minutes later. The Terriers struck again on the powerplay to go up 3-0.

Lindauer broke through at 12:49 of the second period with his first goal in a Union sweater. Junior Nick Young sent the puck down the right wall and behind the net where senior Josh Nixon eventually corralled it near the left circle. Nixon found Lindauer on the goal line and the junior fired a shot from the goal line that beat Mathieu Caron. BU responded just under four minutes later to regain the lead.

The teams combined for 81 total shots on goal, with BU holding a 44-37 advantage. Lindauer led the way among all skaters with 12 faceoff wins.

Junior Kyle Chauvette made 40 saves in the loss to fall to 2-1 on the season. Caron made 36 stops for the win.

Union returns home for Homecoming and Family Weekend to host Mercyhurst in a pair of non-conference games beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Messa Rink.
