Fulawka Scores In 2-1 Women's Hockey Loss to UNH

DURHAM, N.H. - Emma Fulawka scored the lone goal in Union women's ice hockey 2-1 loss to New Hampshire on Friday night.

Fulawka netted Union's goal in the third period while sophomore Mikayla Blomquist registered her first career collegiate point with an assist on Fulawka's goal.

Both teams opened with even chances, Union posting eight shot attempts to UNH's six in the first half of the opening period. However, UNH struck first nine minutes into the first period. A turnover in the slot allowed Julia Cabral to grab the rebound, spin, and shoot it past Union's goalkeeper, with the puck trickling into the net.

Union added eight more shot attempts in the first period to UNH's nine, but neither team could capitalize further.

In the second period, UNH put the offensive pressure on, recording 25 shot attempts. With 58 seconds remaining in the second, a shot by UNH'S Sadie Makokis was tipped by Kelly Hartley, and the rebound fell to Brooke Hammer on the right side of the crease, who fired it into the net.

Union finished with 10 shot attempts and one powerplay opportunity in the second period but could not find the back of the net until the third period.

Four minutes into the third period, Fulawka found the back of the net and scored the lone goal of the period. After receiving a pass from Karianne Engelbert, Mikayla Blomquist attempted to shoot. The shot was blocked in front, leaving the rebound to Fulawka to shoot into the right side of the net and past UNH's goalkeeper.

Despite finishing the period with 15 shots to UNH's nine, neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of the period.

Monja Wagner made her second appearance of the season Friday night, delivering a strong performance with 27 saves.

Women's hockey returns to action tomorrow for their second game of the weekend series against New Hampshire. Puck drop is set for 6:00 pm.
