Women's Hockey Battles New Hampshire to a 1-0 Loss

DURHAM, N.H. - The Union College women's hockey team battled New Hampshire to a 1-0 loss on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center.

The first 40 minutes of the game went scoreless, but UNH's Courtney Lilley broke the tie 1:44 into the third period when a rebound from a shot came out to the left side of the crease in which Lilley was able to backhand the puck into the net.

Union had near chances as UNH (22) with 21 shots on goal but could not find the back of the net. The Chargers went 0-1 on the power play but went a perfect 2-2 on the penalty kill. Freshman Klara Kenttala won seven of 11 faceoffs on the evening while senior goaltender Sophie Matsoukas recorded 21 saves.

Women's Hockey returns home opening ECAC action on Friday night when they welcome Harvard to Messa Rink for a 3:00 pm puck drop.
