SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to William Smith on Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.
Â
William Smith dominated the first half out shooting the Garnet Chargers 12 to five. The Herons found the back of the net three-quarters of the way through the first half when Ruth Hotaling scored from a corner kick.
Â
In the second half, William Smith continued to put the offensive pressure on recording five additional shots to Union's two. However, Union found their rhythm and capitalized 17 minutes into the half when sophomore
Taylor Bovardi played the ball ahead to senior
Sam Friedman, who chipped the ball over the Heron's goalkeeper, into the net—tying the game at one.
Â
The tie did not hold for long as William Smith scored the game-winning goal nearly 12 minutes later. A foul on Union inside the box allowed Hotaling to net her second goal of the game with a penalty shot that found the left side of the net.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper,
Maya Koster, played the full 90 minutes recording 10 saves on the evening.

The Garnet Chargers are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Rochester Institute of Technology for a conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm.
