SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw with Rochester Institute of Technology in a Liberty League matchup on Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.
The tie keeps Union (5-7-5, 1-3-3 Liberty League) in eighth place in the conference standings with two matches remaining, four points back of RIT (5-8-1, 3-3-1 Liberty League) and Ithaca College in seventh place. The Garnet Chargers will need to win their last two matches and get some help in order to reach the postseason.
First-year
Nate Langlois scored his third goal of the season to put Union ahead, but Julius Jakobs earned the equalizer for the Tigers.
Union struck first in the 49th minute off the foot of Langlois, who half-volleyed a bouncing pass from classmate
Julian Badger under RIT goalie Jason Trapp to put the Garnet Chargers in front. Union held RIT off for the next quarter-hour but the Tigers equalized in the 75th minute when Selorm Dake got to the endline and passed in front for Jakobs to tap into an empty net.
First-year
Jackson Magee made two saves the rest of the way to keep the match tied. He ended the day with three saves, as did Trapp on the other side of the field for RIT. Union ended the afternoon with a 10-7 edge in shots.
Union will return to action on Wednesday with a must-win matchup at Skidmore College beginning at 7 p.m.
