SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Liberty League rival Skidmore College on Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.
Union (5-8-5, 2-3-4 Liberty League) outshot Skidmore (5-3-6, 4-2-2 Liberty League) by a 14-8 edge, but could not find the net in having its postseason hopes dashed. The Garnet Charger attack was led by first-years
Alexander Vittal and
Owen Everett, who had three shots apiece.
The Thoroughbreds wasted no time and found the back of the net only 3:16 into the contest. Connor Mansfield sent a shot into the top right of net to beat first-year
Jackson Magee. First-year
Julian Badger and senior
Diego Pascual each added a shot on goal in the first half, but Will Devall made both saves for Skidmore.
Union had some early pressure in the second half. Everett had two shots blocked in a span of 43 seconds. Junior
Lucas Montalto fired a shot towards the lower left corner of the net, but Devall made the save.
Magee made two saves in the loss. Devall stopped five shots in the win.
Union is back in action on Saturday for Senior Day for a 2 p.m. match against Clarkson. Prior to the match, Union will honor the members of the senior class.
