Field Hockey Has Winning Streak Snapped at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Union College field hockey team dropped a tight 1-0 match to Montclair State University in a battle of top-30 teams in the latest NPI rankings on Wednesday evening at Sprague Field.

Union (13-5) had its seven-game winning streak come to a close despite the play of junior Sophie Brady, who made 13 saves and did not allow a goal in the run of play to keep her team in the contest.

The only goal of the game for Montclair State (13-4) came on a penalty stroke in the 33rd minute after an initial save by Brady. Sadie Eichlin took the stroke for the Red Hawks and beat Brady for the goal, which put the home team up 1-0.

The Garnet Chargers managed one penalty corner in the third period and took two shots in the fourth frame, but were unable to find the equalizer.

Montclair State finished the evening with a 17-5 edge in shots, while the penalty corners were 7-5 in favor of the home team.

Union will return home on Saturday, as the team celebrates its seniors with Senior Day before a 5 p.m. matchup against Keene State College.
