UTICA, N.Y. – The Union College women's indoor track and field team started off the new season with three school records, several regional and conference qualifications, and many new personal bests at the Utica University Holiday Classic, held on Saturday at the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center.
Senior
Cat Dacey made the transition from cross country to track look easy with a record-setting run in the mile, taking top honors with a time of 5:05.54 that surpassed the previous record of Allie Cuozzo '10 HOF '24 set in 2008 by over two seconds and also qualified her for the AARTFC Indoor Championships.
Another Union record fell in the 300-meter dash, with senior
Gabby Baker crossing the line in 43.95 to take third place and break one of the program's oldest records, set in 1983 by Candy Mills-Crosz '91. Sophomore
Kat Doran also nabbed sixth place with a time of 45.61 seconds.

Annabel Dobash had a record-setting run in the 5,000 meters, taking second place out of 12 runners with a time of 18:57.43. Classmate
Emilie Rosecan also shaved over a minute off her career best 5K, finishing in 19:38.62 to place ninth.
Sophomore
Ashley Sheldon started off her indoor season with a run of 9.73 seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, winning her heat by over half a second and earning her a spot in the finals. She followed up with a time of 9.61 seconds in the finals to earn second place. The sophomore also nabbed second in the high jump, clearing 1.54 meters (5-0.5).
In addition to Dacey, Union also grabbed three other top-seven spots in the mile. First-year
Kyleigh Record took second place with a time of 5:32.52, trailing only Dacey in the 20-runner field. Senior
Caroline Kelly and first-year
Isla Langsdorf placed sixth and seventh, respectively, by finishing within a second of each other at 5:45.00 and 5:45.97.
First-year
Charlotte Knight made her collegiate indoor track debut in the 800 meters, earning a top-five finish with a time of 2:47.81.
Union will break for the holidays before return to action on January 11 at the Middlebury College Snowflake Invitational.
