SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Christian Dufort of the Union College men's basketball team capped the most productive week of his collegiate career by earning a spot on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week, the website announced on Tuesday morning.
Dufort is the second Union player to earn the D3hoops.com national honor, joining first-year
Tanner Tedesco on January 30. Dufort and Tedesco are the first Union men's basketball teammates to earn Team of the Week honors in the same season since
Wade McNamara '17 and
Deshon Burgess '17 in 2016-17.
The Saratoga Springs native had a huge weekend leading Union to a pair of crucial conference victories over Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University, averaging a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds per game. The forward was incredibly efficient shooting the ball in the two games, hitting 68.4 percent (13 of 19) of his shots from the field, 70 percent (7 of 10) from three-point range and 90.9 percent (10 of 11) from the line.
The sophomore started the week by hitting 8-of-11 shots, including 6-of-7 from long range, on the way to a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds in Friday's 83-75 win over Clarkson. He came back with 16 points and 10 boards on Saturday in a 67-65 win over St. Lawrence while chipping in three assists, including a cross-court feed to
Matthew Garside for the go-ahead three-pointer with 22 seconds remaining.
Dufort has played his best basketball of the season during Union's recent winning stretch, scoring in double figures in five of the last six games and averaging 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game during that span. On the season, Dufort is averaging 8.2 points and a team-best 5.8 boards per contest while shooting 44.6 percent from the field.
Currently tied for fourth place in the crowded Liberty League standings, Dufort and the Garnet Chargers will look to make one final push for the postseason with a pair of road games this weekend beginning on Friday at Rochester Institute of Technology.
