ORLANDO, Fla. – The Union College women's tennis team continued its winning ways down south with two more victories on Monday, posting an 8-1 win over Augustana College in the morning and a 9-0 blanking of Whitworth University in the afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
Sophomore
Skylar Semon and first-year
Luisa Arizpe-Sierra both led the way for the Garnet Chargers with a perfect 4-0 record on the day, earning two singles and two doubles victories, while sophomores
Kennedy Alexis and
Claire Langille both went 3-0 for the day. Seven players in total had at least one win for Union (5-2) on Monday.
Union started the day with an 8-1 victory over Augustana, coming a first-doubles tiebreaker short of a sweep. Langille, Semon and Arizpe-Sierra all posted a pair of victories to lead the Garnet Chargers to a win.
The Garnet Chargers started the day by taking two of the three doubles matches and coming a few points short of a sweep. Langille and Semon got the scoring started with an 8-0 sweep of Ava Lannen and Mia Reese at third doubles, followed by an 8-5 second-doubles victory from Arizpe-Sierra and sophomore

Gracie Nicol and sophomore
Chara Meidani came up just short in an 8-7 (7-2) defeat.
Union came back and swept all six flights in singles play to complete the victory. Langille and Semon earned their second wins of the day at the bottom two flights, with Langille defeating Hattie Timerman at the sixth flight, 6-3, 6-1, and Semon defeating Natasha Gauerke, 6-1, 6-2, at fifth singles. Nicol clinched the match at the top flight, defeating Caitlyn Hanulikova with a pair of 6-3 sets.
Arizpe-Sierra earned her second win at the third-singles flight, defeating Hannah Colbert by a 6-3, 6-2 score. Gatto chipped in a 6-1, 6-2 victory at fourth singles and Meidani closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win at the second flight.
Union increased its winning streak to four with a sweep of Whitworth to end the afternoon. Five players were dual winners and seven players in total played a role in the 9-0 victory.
Nicol and Meidani started off with an 8-2 win at first doubles, followed by a second-doubles win by Alexis and Arizpe-Sierra by an 8-5 score. Langille and Semon finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at the third flight.
Arizpe-Sierra and Nicol quickly clinched the win for Union in singles play, with Arizpe-Sierra needing one extra game to defeat Natalie Budge, 6-1, 6-0, at third singles, and Nicol taking down Gracie Smyley at the first flight, 6-0, 6-3. Semon followed up by finishing off a 6-3, 6-1 fifth-singles win over Meredith Bedford and Meidani added to the win total with a pair of 6-4 sets at second singles over Paige Oliver. Gatto earned the eighth point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at fourth singles, and Alexis completed the sweep with a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, (10-5) sixth-singles triumph.
Union will close out Spring Break tomorrow with two more matches, taking on DePauw University at 9:30 a.m. and St. Olaf College at 2:30 p.m.
