SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team suffered its first Liberty League loss of the 2023-24 season on Friday afternoon, falling to St. Lawrence University by a 7-2 score at Sportime Tennis Club.

Sophomores
Claire Langille and
Sydney Alphabet earned singles victories for Union (8-3, 3-1 Liberty League), but the wins came after the Garnet Chargers had already dropped the first seven points of the day.

St. Lawrence (8-6, 3-2 Liberty League) took all the momentum with a sweep of doubles play to start the afternoon. Ariana Karere and Yvette Karera took the final four games to earn an 8-5 win at second doubles to put the Saints up by two, and Elena Styliades and Abigail Sicuranza grinded out an 8-7 (7-4) win at third doubles to put Union in a tight spot headed into singles play.

The Saints earned wins at the top-four singles flights to secure the victory. Langille got Union on the board with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Maya Stepic at fifth singles, and Alphabet closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Meredith Macey in sixth-singles action.

Union will return to the courts on Tuesday with a matchup at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute beginning at 4 p.m.
