TROY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 match to local rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Liberty League action on Tuesday afternoon at Sharp Courts.
 
Four Garnet Chargers earned wins on the day for Union (8-5, 3-2 Liberty League), with the visitors earning one doubles victory and a pair of singles triumphs. Three players earned a pair of wins each to lead Rensselaer (11-4, 4-1 Liberty League).
 
Senior 
Gracie Nicol and 
Chara Meidani earned a hard-fought point for Union at first doubles, taking an 8-7 (7-4) tiebreak from Krisia Flores Gonzalez and Lorna Flores Gonzalez. The pair jumped out to 5-3 and 7-5 leads before the Engineers came back to force a tiebreaker, but Nicol and Meidani hung tough and came back from 3-1 down in the breaker to win.
 
Sophomores 
Claire Langille and 
Skylar Semon nearly came back from a 7-3 deficit in third-doubles action, coming one game short of forcing a tiebreaker in an 8-6 defeat.  Sophomore 
Kennedy Alexis and first-year 
Luisa Arizpe-Sierra also played well at second doubles, holding a 5-4 lead before RPI ran off the final four games to secure the win.
 
Singles play did not go the way of the visitors, with Union only managing to pick up two points. Arizpe-Sierra had an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win over Krisia Flores Gonzalez at third singles to earn a point for her squad and her team-best 13th singles victory of the season, while sophomore 
Sydney Alphabet improved to 4-0 at sixth singles this year with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Masha Karach.
 
Semon came one break short in each set of her fourth-singles match against Lina Krumpel as well, coming up just short in a 7-5, 6-4 defeat.
 
Union returns to conference play on Saturday at ITA #32 Vassar College beginning at 2 p.m.
