Union Falls to #40 Vassar, 8-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team fell to #40 Vassar College by an 8-1 score in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center.

Despite the loss, Union (8-6, 3-3 Liberty League) remains in fourth place in the Liberty League standings with two conference matches remaining. The Garnet Chargers need to win one of their last two Liberty League matches to clinch a postseason spot.

Vassar (13-3, 6-0 Liberty League) started the day with wins in all three doubles matchups to take an early lead. Sophomores Skylar Semon and Claire Langille came the closest to pulling out a victory at third doubles, coming up just short to Anayna Krishnan and Elyse Duley in an 8-6 loss.

First-year Luisa Arizpe-Sierra prevented the clean sweep with a hard-fought win at second singles, coming from a set down to knock off Macey Dowd by a 4-6, 6-3, (10-7) score and earn her team-leading 14th singles victory of the season. Sophomore Chara Meidani also put up a good fight in her third-singles match against Iris Li before falling in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 decision.

Union will return to action on Monday with its non-conference finale at SUNY Oneonta set for 4 p.m.
