NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Senior Ella Trout and first-year Gillian Joseph were recognized for their excellent seasons for the Union College women's lacrosse team this spring with spots on the IWLCA All-Empire Region second team, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced on Friday afternoon.
 
The honors are the first All-Region honors for both players and make Union one of only eight teams in the Empire Region with multiple IWLCA All-Region selections this season.
 
Joseph is one of three first-years to be honored in the Empire Region after a very productive rookie season for the Garnet Chargers. She became the fourth player in program history to be honored as the Liberty League Rookie of the Year after leading the team in scoring with 46 goals and six assists for 52 points, the fourth-most goals and fifth-most points by a first-year lacrosse player at Union. The four-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week and All-Liberty League second-team honoree finished the season ranked eighth in the conference in goals.
 
Trout, meanwhile, puts a cap on her excellent four-year career with All-Region honors after earning her first spot on the All-Liberty League first team this season. The senior defender led the team with a career-best 18 caused turnovers and also ranked third in the team in ground balls with 23 in addition to chipping in four draw controls and her first collegiate goal. She grabbed 58 ground balls and caused 35 turnovers in her two seasons as a starter and finished her career with 65 ground balls and 45 caused turnovers in 51 games for Union.
 
Led by its two All-Region performers, Union finished the season with an 11-6 record and reached the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. With a roster that is set to return six of its top-seven scorers, Union will look to keep the momentum going and vie for a conference title once again in 2025.
