Joseph Named Top Rookie; Three Earn All-Liberty League Honors

TROY, N.Y. – Led by Liberty League Rookie of the Year Gillian Joseph, three members of the Union College women's lacrosse team were recognized for their play this season with All-Liberty League laurels, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.

Joseph, who was also named to the All-Conference second team, is the fourth player in program history to earn Conference Rookie of the Year honors and the first since Emily McGrail '15 in 2012. In addition to Joseph's honor, senior Ella Trout was named the All-Liberty League first team on defense and junior Greta Maurer earned a spot as a second-team midfielder.

Joseph led Union in scoring as a first-year attacker, racking up 46 goals with six assists for 52 points. Her 46 goals are the fourth-most by a rookie in program history and her 52 points rank fifth among Union rookies all-time, with both totals the most by a newcomer since McGrail (47 goals, six assists) in 2012. Among conference players, Joseph ranked eighth in goals and was a four-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week selection.

Trout caps her career with her first career All-Conference honor as one of the Liberty League's top-three defenders. She recorded a career-high 18 caused turnovers as a senior to lead the team and also ranked third on the squad with 23 ground balls, while also controlling four draws and scoring her first collegiate goal against Bard College. The two-year starter finished her career with 65 ground balls and 45 caused turnovers as a key member of the defensive unit.

Maurer earns All-Conference second-team honors for the second straight season after another year patrolling the midfield for Union. The junior ranked second on the team in points with 23 goals and a team-best 25 assists (ninth in the Liberty League) for 48 points, while also leading the team in draw controls (47) and ranking second in both ground balls (26) and caused turnovers (16). In her first 51 games, Maurer has accumulated 58 goals with 47 assists for 105 points and is also at or near the century mark in draw controls (102) and ground balls (90) with a year remaining.

Led by its three All-Conference performers, Union finished the season with an 11-6 record and reached the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. With a roster that is set to return six of its top-seven scorers, Union will look to keep the momentum going and vie for a conference title once again in 2025.
