SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Union College men's soccer team posted a 1-1 tie at Western New England University on Wednesday afternoon at Suprenant Field.
Sophomore
Alex Borkland was the lone goal scorer for Union with his first collegiate goal.
Union started the game with a pair of shots in the opening 13 minutes before the Golden Bears responded with a pair of their own. First-year
Alexander Vittal aimed a shot for the bottom left of the net that was saved by Braylon Casinghino. The ball rebounded and first-year
Owen Everett took a shot of his own, but Casinghino was there again to make the save. Borkland potted the go-ahead goal only a few minutes later to put the visitors up 1-0.
The Golden Bears tied it up at 67:17 off a goal by Keegan Reim. The Golden Bears continued to pressure the Garnet Chargers with 10 shots in the last 20 minutes of play. First-year
Jackson Magee made a pair of saves to keep the game tied at one apiece.
Magee made seven saves in his fourth start and faced a career-high 21 shots.
Union returns home for a non-conference game against Plattsburgh State on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at College Park Field.
