SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - An action filled match between the Union College Garnet Chargers and Western New England University Golden Bears ended in a 2-2 draw Wednesday afternoon at College Park Field.
WNE put the pressure on early in the half and opened the scoring early in the first. At the 2:59 minute mark, Isabella Montalvo crossed the ball to Emma French located on the right post. French was able to sneak a pass past Union's goalkeeper to Liza Pinette who struck the ball home in the left bottom corner.
12 minutes later, Union responded, tying the game. A pass from #8 Taylor Bovardi found #7 Alayna Boileau, who struck the ball from the center of the 18-yard box into the bottom right corner past WNE's goalkeeper.
WNE quickly regained the lead ten minutes later when Brynn Murphy passed from the goal line to Emma Withington, who then crossed the ball to Gabby Sansone. Sansone finished the game with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner.
At the 30-minute mark, a ball sent towards the Golden Bears net, played by a Golden Bear defender, found the back of WNE's net, serving as the equalizer for Union.
In the second half, Union made a goalie switch with junior Rachel Berliner stepping in net for Maya Koster.
There were several good opportunities from both teams, but the second half of the game would remain scoreless. The Garnet Chargers finished with 5 shots on net and led saves with 5 to WNE's 3.
The Garnet Chargers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Oneonta, N.Y. for a 1 p.m. non-conference matchup versus SUNY Oneonta.
