Five Different Scorers Lead Field Hockey Past Ramapo, 5-1

MAHWAH, N.J. – Five different players recorded goals to lead the Union College field hockey team to a commanding 5-1 victory over Ramapo College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon.

Union (5-2), who have won their five games against non-nationally ranked teams by a combined margin of 24-2, were paced by junior Megan Dorsey with three points on a goal and an assist. Seniors Grace Goddard and Shaelyn Kelley and sophomores Maddie Greco and Reese Fendelet all scored as well for the visitors.

Greco started off the scoring just 2:55 into the contest, taking a pass from first-year Rowan Dapson and beating goalie Michelle Kukan for her team-leading eighth goal of the season. The sophomore has now scored in five consecutive games, the longest streak for a Union player since Tyler Willey '11 scored five goals in five games during the 2007 season.

Ramapo tied the score less than a minute later on an Anna Plaia tally, but it was all Union after that point. Fendelet put the visitors back on top with 3:11 remaining in the opening frame with an unassisted tally, and Dorsey scored with no time remaining in the opening frame when Union earned a penalty stroke after an untimed corner and the junior netted her first goal of the year. The visitors outshot the home team 11-1 after 15 minutes.

After a scoreless second stanza that saw Union take the period's only five shots, Union scored once more in each of the final two frames to put the game away. Kelley scored her third of the season in the 40th minute to make the score 4-1 after three periods, and Goddard finished up the scoring with 9:36 left off a feed from Dorsey.

Union finished the afternoon with a 25-5 edge in shots and a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Marion Stuntz made two saves to earn her first victory of the season.

Union will return home on Wednesday to take on Hartwick College beginning at 6 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
