Women's Soccer Can't Find the Net in 1-0 Loss to Vassar

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team saw its seven-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling to Vassar College by a 1-0 score in Liberty League action at College Park Field.

Vassar (6-1-2, 2-0-0 Liberty League) used a commanding opening 45 minutes to score the only goal the Brewers would need to earn the victory. In the 14th minute, Rebecca Rodriguez found space at the top of the 18-yard box and lofted a perfectly placed shot into the top-right corner for the first and only goal of the afternoon.

The Brewers outshot the Garnet Chargers by a 7-1 margin in the opening 45 minutes, with sophomore Maya Koster making three saves to keep Union (4-2-3, 0-1-1 Liberty League) within striking distance.

Union looked like a different offensive team in the second half, holding a 5-0 edge in shots and putting pressure on the Brewer defensive unit on several occasions. The pressure did not convert into goals, however, as the home team had several chances miss the mark and JD Reigrut stopped the lone on-target shot by sophomore Taylor Bovardi in the 57th minute.

Vassar finished the afternoon with a 7-6 edge in shots, while Union led by corner kicks by a 6-4 margin. Koster finished with three saves and Reigrut stopped two shots in goal.

Union will look to get back on the right track on Wednesday with a non-conference match against Russell Sage College beginning at 7 p.m. in Schenectady.
