EWING, N.J. – The Union College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Rutgers-Newark on day one of the TCNJ Men's Soccer Classic hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon.
The first 30 minutes of the contest saw first-year
Jackson Magee make three great saves, but at 30:24, Erick Cortes broke through with a goal. The Garnet Chargers responded with a shot by sophomore
Alex Borkland and two corner kicks. Union closed out the half with a shot on goal by
Owen Everett and a corner kick by first-year
London Abbott.
The second half of the match was all Union. The Garnet Chargers came out firing with three shots and two corner kicks in the first nine minutes of play. Union out-shot Rutgers-Newark 10-2 in the second half including a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Magee made his third straight start for Union and recorded six saves.
Union faces host TCNJ in day two of the TCNJ Men's Soccer Classic on Sunday with a 3:30pm start in Ewing, N.J.
