SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team secured the 1-0 win in their home opener Saturday afternoon against Endicott College at College Park Field.
The Gulls outshot the Garnet Chargers 10-4 in the contest but could not find the back of the net.
Despite being outshot, a foul by the Gulls in the box at the 31-minute mark set up a penalty kick for junior forward Vanessa Jorgensen, who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner, beating the Endicott goalkeeper and putting Union on the board.
In the second half, the Gulls had several great chances towards the end but were shut out by Union sophomore goalkeeper Maya Koster who delivered an outstanding performance.
Koster concluded the game with nine saves on the evening, while Endicott goalkeeper, Rosalina Caliri, finished with one.
The Garnet Chargers return to action on Wednesday when they host Western New England University for a non-conference match up at 6:00 pm.
