UTICA, N.Y. – The Union College women's indoor track and field team recorded one regional-qualifying result and one new conference qualifier to go with 13 season-best finishes at the non-scoring Utica Winter Opener, held on Friday evening at the Hutton Sports and Recreation Center.
First-year
Kyleigh Record qualified for the AARTFC Indoor Championships with an excellent run in the 800 meters, placing fourth in 2:21.68. She was joined in the top-10 by senior
Cat Dacey (a season-best 2:23.41) in sixth and first-year
Bethel Flanagan (2:27.86) in eighth, with Flanagan joining her two teammates in qualifying for the Liberty League Championships with the best time of her young career.
Sophomore
Kat Doran earned ninth place out of 36 runners in the 60-meter dash, just missing the final with a time of 8.39 seconds. Senior
Gabby Baker came in two-hundredths of a second later in 10th place, finishing 8.41 seconds. Baker also grabbed a top-10 finish in the 200 meters, taking ninth in 27.87 seconds, while her season-best time of 1:02.97 in the 400-meter dash was good for a fifth-place finish.
The team's best result of the day came in the 4x400 relay, as the quartet of Record, Dacey, Baker and Doran placed second out of 11 teams with a time of 4:19.91.
Sophomore
Annabel Dobash added a top-10 result in the 3000 meters, placing seventh after crossing the line in 11:05.10,
Union will return to the track next Saturday for Springfield College's Massasoit Classic beginning at 10:30 a.m.
