SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's hockey team closed out the weekend with a 4-1 win over Harvard University on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink.
Union (13-9-1, 7-5-0 ECACH) has now won three in a row over the Crimson (6-9-2, 5-5-2 ECACH) and moved into a tie for third place in the ECAC Hockey standings with 21 points.
The Garnet Chargers went 2-for-5 on the powerplay tonight and were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Ben Muthersbaugh all registered a goal and an assist. Senior
Caden Villegas also added a multi-point game with two assists in the win.
Ferguson scored his second goal of the season to reach double-digit scoring (2-9-11) at 5:20 of the first period to open the game. Sophomore
Joseph Messina fired a shot from the right circle that ricocheted off the far wall and landed on Ferguson's stick. The Union captain fired a shot from the center of the left circle that beat Harvard netminder Ben Charette. The Crimson tied it up at 12:32 with a goal from Salvatore Guzzo. Harvard continued to pressure Union with 17 total shots in the first period, including one that rang off the post.
Harvard continued to put pressure on junior
Kyle Chauvette for most of the second period with another 10 shots on goal. Despite the shot advantage tilting in favor of Harvard, Union was the one to find the back of the net. Junior
Nate Hanley made a diving play to keep the puck in the offensive zone and Muthersbaugh sent a shot on net. Buhr raced in and collected the rebound before scoring his team-leading 12
th goal of the season. A holding penalty on Kyle Aucoin at 18:39 put Union on the powerplay for the remainder of the period.
The 39 seconds left on the powerplay to start the third period proved fortuitous as Union scored 32 seconds in. Junior
John Prokop sent a pass over to Villegas in the right circle. The senior found Nixon at the top of the slot. A quick wrister from Nixon put Union up 3-1. Sean Keohane committed two tripping penalties with less than ten minutes to go in the third. The Garnet Chargers struck on the second power-play chance with a goal from Muthersbaugh. Ferguson sent a pass from the point to Muthersbaugh in the right circle. The first-year sent a one-timer past Charette for his fifth power-play goal of the season.
Chauvette stopped 35 shots for his 12
th win of the season including 16 in the opening period. Charette made 29 saves in the loss for the Crimson.
Union is back in action on Saturday for the annual Capital District Mayor's Cup. Puck drop against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is set for 6:00 p.m. at MVP Arena in Albany.
