SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Union College women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2025-26 schedule on Thursday evening at Skidmore College, falling to the host Thoroughbreds by a 5-2 score at the McCaffrey-Wagman Tennis Center.
Four Garnet Chargers earned wins on the night, with seniors
Skylar Semon and
Claire Langille winning in singles play and the team of senior
Sydney Alphabet and sophomore
Calista Finkelstein picking up a doubles win for Union (1-1, 1-1 Liberty League).
Union got doubles play off to a good start with Alphabet and Finkelstein's 6-2 win over Margaret English and Mia Rosenberg at the third flight. However, Skidmore (1-0, 1-0 Liberty League) finished off wins at the top two flights soon after, winning 6-2 at first doubles and 6-1 at second doubles.
The Thoroughbreds quickly clinched the win with victories at third, fourth and sixth singles. Senior
Chara Meidani dropped the first set in her first-singles match with Ginevra Muratori before winning the second by the same 6-4 score, but fell short in a third-set supertiebreaker.
Semon prevented the shutout with a supertiebreaker win at second singles, taking the first set from Mia Sarzynska by a 6-3 margin and then shaking off a 6-0 second-set loss to prevail in the breaker. Langille also had an impressive win in her fifth-singles match against English, taking the first set in a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker and then cruising to a 6-2 second-set victory.
Union will take the next few months off from competition before returning to action in the spring. The 2026 spring season is set to begin on Friday, February 21 against the College of New Jersey.
