LEBANON, N.J. – The Union College women's tennis team got the spring portion of its 2025-26 season started on Saturday afternoon, falling to The College of New Jersey by a 5-2 score at the Courtside Racquet Club.
Sophomore
Calista Finkelstein and first-year
Megan McCusker earned victories on the day for Union (1-2), which saw TCNJ (4-0) jump out to a 3-0 lead on the way to the win.
The Lions started the afternoon by sweeping the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day, then picked up wins by Eleni Dakos at first singles and Zoey Albert at second singles to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
McCusker kept Union alive with a hard-fought fourth-singles win over Gabrielle Brideau, battling to a 7-6 (7-5) first-set win and coming back from a 6-0 second set to win in a supertiebreaker by a 10-6 margin. TCNJ clinched the match at fourth singles, but Finkelstein earned a second point for Union with a 6-1, 7-5 (7-3) win over Gabriella Robinson at the fifth flight.
Senior
Sydney Alphabet almost earned another win for the Garnet Chargers at sixth singles, forcing a supertiebreaker against Elizabeth Ring before falling by a 6-2, 6-7 (8-10), (10-2) margin.
Union will return to the court tomorrow, when the Garnet Chargers face a difficult test against ITA #24 New York University at 1 p.m. in the Bronx.
