ANNADALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Senior Lucas Montalto scored the lone goal, while classmate Jacob Perry made four saves to lead the Union College men's soccer team to a 1-0 Liberty League win over Bard College on Wednesday evening at Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex.
With the win, Union (6-5-4, 3-1-3 Liberty League) moves into third place in the conference standings.
Union's first shot on goal 14 minutes into the match proved to be the difference. Senior Grant Della Rocca fired an initial shot that was stopped by Bard's goalkeeper, but Montalto pounced on the rebound and buried it for the game-winner.
Union controlled much of the first half, outshooting Bard 6-1, but could not extend the lead.
In the second half, Bard edged Union in shots 7-3, with four on target, but Perry stood tall to preserve the shutout and secure the victory.
Union returns to action on Saturday for Senior Day, hosting #11 Hobart at 2:00 p.m.
