Late Goal Lifts #15 St. Lawrence University Past Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - #15 St. Lawrence scored the game-winning goal with just over a minute remaining to take a 3-2 win over the Union College women's hockey team Saturday afternoon at M&T Bank Center.

Sophomore Jill Willis opened the scoring for the Garnet Chargers with her first goal of the season, assisted by classmate Karianne Engelbert and first-year Megan Duplantie. Engelbert later scored a power-play goal in the second period, with assists from classmate Klara Kenttälä and senior captain Stephanie Bourque. With Bourque's assist, she now is the all-time leader in assists (39).

Union came out strong in the first period, outshooting the Saints 12-10. The Garnet Chargers capitalized early at 4:39 when Duplantie chipped the puck to Engelbert, who connected with Willis in the slot for the game's opening tally.

St. Lawrence responded exactly one minute later as Kiley Mastel spun around and fired a shot on net to even the score at one. Both teams generated additional chances, but the frame ended tied at 1-1.

In the second period, St. Lawrence earned two power-play opportunities but could not convert, while Union capatilized on their lone advantage late in the frame. With 27 seconds remaining, Bourque fired a shot from the point that was tipped by Kenttälä. The rebound bounced to Engelbert, who deked the goaltender and tucked the puck home for a 2-1 lead.

Union spent much of the third period shorthanded. St. Lawrence took advantage midway through the frame, tying the game at 2-2 on a power-play goal by Ryan Haslam. Haslam later netted the game-winner with just over a minute remaining, scoring on her own rebound after tipping a shot from Taeyeon Kim.

First-year goaltender Emma Rhéaume made 41 saves in the loss, finishing with a .932 save percentage.

Union (4–4–2) returns to action next weekend for its first road trip of the season, traveling to #7 Quinnipiac University on Friday for a 4:30 pm puck drop and Princeton University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
