SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior
Grace Beazoglou's first collegiate goal proved to be the difference in the Union College women's soccer team's 1-0 Liberty League win over Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.
Union controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Engineers 15-2, but Rensselaer goalkeeper Audrey Montero made several key saves to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
The Garnet Chargers continued to dominate in the second half, holding a 13-3 advantage in shots, and broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Beazoglou fired a 40-yard strike into the top-left corner of the net for her first collegiate tally.
Rensselaer managed just one more shot on target while searching for an equalizer, but could not break through.
Junior
Maya Koster played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves to earn the shutout.
Union continues Liberty League action on Wednesday at Vassar with kickoff set for 4:00 pm.
