POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team fell, 2-0, to No. 19 Vassar College on Wednesday evening at Gordon Field.
The Brewers opened the scoring just six minutes into the match, as Rebecca Rodriguez finished a centering pass from Gianna Panarelli with a shot inside the left post.
Shots were even at seven apiece in the first half, but Vassar goalkeeper Laura Shea stopped all seven Union attempts to preserve the 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Vassar outshot Union 6-3 and doubled its advantage with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Lucy Getzin capitalized on a rebound off the crossbar to seal the 2-0 victory.
Union totaled 10 shots to Vassar's 13. Junior goalkeeper Maya Koster played the full 90 minutes and recorded seven saves.
