Korpi Earns ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month Award After 4-1-1 Start

DANBURY, Conn. Union College men's hockey sophomore Cameron Korpi was named the ECAC Hockey MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Month for October, the conference announced Thursday.

Korpi claimed the award in his first month with the Garnet Chargers after a 4-1-1 start to the season. Korpi started all six games in October, posting a .917 save percentage and a 1.82 goals-against average. He is the first Union goaltender to earn the honor since Darion Hanson in November 2018.

The highlight of Korpi's first month with the team came on October 18, when he stopped all 24 shots he faced in a 6-0 win over Niagara, securing his first collegiate shutout. That performance was part of a larger 113:11 scoreless streak that spanned parts of three games for the 6-foot-4 netminder.

On October 4 against Army West Point, Korpi made a season-high 26 saves in his Union debut after transferring from the University of Michigan. He has patrolled the crease all season for a defensive unit that ranks 10th nationally in NCAA Division I men's hockey, allowing just 1.86 goals per game and a penalty kill that has gone 20 straight opportunities without surrendering a goal.

In his first game of November, which was not factored into his October honor, Korpi secured his second shutout of the season, stopping 12 shots in a 3-0 win at Rensselaer. He was also named as a runner-up for the Hockey Commissioners Association's Men's Goalie of the Month award

Korpi and the Garnet Chargers return to action on Friday, Nov. 7, hosting Clarkson at 7 p.m. at M&T Bank Center.
