Garside Named Performer of the Week, Four Named to Honor Roll

TROY, N.Y. – After a career week leading the Union College men's basketball team to a pair of wins, sophomore Matthew Garside was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week and four Union College student-athletes were named to their respective Liberty League weekly honor rolls for the week ending on February 9, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

Men's Basketball Performer of the Week: Matthew Garside
Garside averaged 22.0 points per game on 58 percent shooting from the field and 62.5 percent shooting from long range to lead Union to victories over the top-two teams in the Liberty League over the weekend. The sophomore started the weekend with 21 points in Friday's 79-77 (OT) victory over first-place Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, scoring four of Union's nine points in the extra frame and finishing the game shooting 7-of-12 from the field. He followed that up with his second game-winning buzzer-beater of the season on Saturday against Vassar College, sinking a shot from just inside half court to cap a career-high 23-point effort in a 78-76 win. Garside finished the game shooting 6-of-8 from long range and scored 15 of his 23 in the second half, as the Garnet Chargers came back from a 15-point first-half deficit for their fourth straight win.

Bois reset the program record in the 60-meter hurdles at the Utica Blue and Orange Invitational on Saturday, crossing the line in 8.46 seconds to best his own program record by one-hundredth of a second and post the third-fastest time in the Mideast Region this season. He followed up with a time of 8.51 in the finals to take sixth place overall in a field that included several Division I and II competitors. The junior also posted a career-best in the high jump, clearing 1.72 meters to place 14th in the 32-person field.

She cleared 1.58 meters on her first attempt and was the only jumper out of four to get over the 1.61-meter bar to earn the win.
