ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Union College women's indoor track & field team started the weekend by shattering the school record in the distance medley relay on day one of the D-III Elite Meet, hosted by Nazareth University on Friday at the Golisano Training Center.
The women only had two entries on Friday's first day of competition at the non-scoring meet, but both resulted in good times and a promising start headed into Saturday's second day.
In the distance medley relay, the quartet of seniors
Gabby Baker and
Cat Dacey and first-years
Bethel Flanagan and
Kyleigh Record placed second in 12:18.34, shattering the previous school record by more than 14 seconds and ranking fifth in Division III so far this season. Record led off the relay with a 3:47.88 in the opening 1200 meters, followed by Baker with a 1:01.41 over the next 400 that moved the Garnet Chargers into first place. Flanagan followed by a 2:24.73 in the 800-meter portion to remain in the top-two, and Dacey came home in 5:04.24 over the finishing mile.
Sophomore
Ashley Sheldon also qualified for tomorrow's final in the 60-meter hurdles, winning her heat in a time of 9.78 seconds.
The Garnet Chargers will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the D-III Elite Meet beginning at 10 a.m.
