SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team ended spring term with a doubleheader sweep of Russell Sage College on Sunday afternoon at Central Park "A" Diamond. The Garnet Chargers shutout the Gators 14-0 in game one and took game two, 3-2, in a pair of seven inning games.
Game One: Union 14, Sage 0
Senior
Chris Suter improved to 4-0 with a stellar complete game outing on Sunday afternoon. The senior pitched his first shutout of the season and the third of his career. Suter struck out five in the shutout with seven hits and one walk.
Three Union hitters recorded a multi-hit game in the win. First-year
Dylan Swarts went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore
Noah DiCaprio tallied four RBIs and two hits while junior Nic Lambros added two hits of his own with a run scored and a pair of RBIs.
Senior
Sam Strazza doubled in the first inning and junior
Caleb Miller hit a homerun to give Union a 2-0 lead.
The Garnet Chargers exploded for eight runs in the second inning to take a commanding 10-0 lead early into the game. DiCaprio and senior
Dan Sheeran drew back-to-back walks setting up Lambros for the RBI single. Back-to-back infielding errors in the next two at-bats saw two more runs score for Union. A walk by junior
Cooper Ames loaded the bases with two outs, prompting a pitching change for Sage. Senior
Kyle Zaslaw and Swarts each hit an RBI single. Ames made it home on a wild pitch and DiCaprio hit a two-run single to cap off the scoring in the second inning.
After a scoreless third inning, Union added another run in the fourth. Lambros added another RBI single that saw Swarts cross home. The Garnet Chargers scored again in the fifth inning to take a 12-0 lead.
Sage put runners on first in second with two outs in the fifth inning, but a strikeout by Suter to end the inning kept the Gators off the board. A two-run double by DiCaprio in the seventh inning ended the scoring for Union.
Game Two: Union 3, Sage 2
Game two saw only ten hits combined between the two teams. Zaslaw went 2-for-3 in the win. Junior
Jacob Skarlis earned his first start for Union and pitched 5.1 innings with two runs on four hits and two strikeouts. Senior

Alex Erickson earned the win with four straight strikeouts to close the game.
The Garnet Chargers picked up where they left off in game one with a run in the first inning. After Strazza walked and Miller reached on a fielder's choice to put two on with one out, Ames singled to give Union a 1-0 lead. The Gators responded in the bottom of the frame. A leadoff single followed by a walk put two on with no outs. A sac bunt by Evan Grimes moved the runners over. James Lubanski grounded out and Dom Caminitti scored to tie the game.
Sage took a one-run lead in the bottom of the second. Jared Russell hit a leadoff single and stole second. Nick Marsella moved Russell to third with a groundout. Leandro Guzman hit an RBI single to put Sage up 2-1.
Union tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Sheeran reached first on an error and two batters later, reached second on an error by Devin Campbell. Strazza drew a walk to put runners on first and second with two outs. The senior duo moved up a base on a wild pitch and Sheeran scored on a passed ball to tie the game.
First-year
Will Kelly singled in the top of the seventh inning and stole second. Strazza hit an RBI single and Kelly made it home for the go-ahead run. Erickson struck out all three batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first win of the season.
Union heads south to compete in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational beginning on Saturday. First pitch against Saint John's (Minn.) is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. aat Lake Myrtle Main Field.
