SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Tanner Tedesco of the Union College men's basketball team was recognized for his excellent season on the court by earning All-Region second-team honors from both D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the organizations both announced on Tuesday.
Tedesco is the first Union men's basketball player to earn All-Region honors since Kevin Weckworth '18 was named to the NABC All-East second team in 2018 and the first to be recognized by D3hoops.com since Deshon Burgess '17 earned his second straight All-Region first-team honor in 2017.
Tedesco, who was named the D3hoops.com Region 3 Rookie of the Year as a first-year, was previously named to the All-Liberty League first team after an excellent all-around season for the Garnet Chargers. He ranked third on the team by averaging 13.5 points per game and also grabbed 4.1 boards per outing, while leading the team and the Liberty League with 175 assists (6.5 apg). At the national level, Tedesco ranks third in Division III in assists per game, fourth in total assists and 37th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.33), while he ranked seventh in the country by playing an average of 36.5 minutes per game. His 175 assists this season rank third on the school single-season list and are the most-ever by a Union sophomore, and his 15 assists against SUNY Cobleskill on November 11 are tied for the most by a Division III player this year and were the most for a Union player since Steve Evans '94 had 16 in 1993.
Through two seasons at Union, Tedesco is averaging 12.4 points, 5.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game, and he will head into his third year looking to improve on a total of 293 assists that already rank him eighth in program history.
Tedesco helped lead the Garnet Chargers to a 16-11 record and an 11-7 mark in conference play this season, earning the first home postseason game in five years and setting the stage for another year of growth in 2025-26.
