CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team won all six flights of singles play to race past St. Lawrence University and remain unbeaten in the Liberty League with a 6-1 victory over the Saints on Saturday afternoon at the Sammis Tennis Courts.
The fifth straight win keeps Union (10-3, 4-0 Liberty League) tied atop the conference standings with four conference matches remaining and moves the team to seven matches over .500 for the first time since 1998. The win is also Union's first in the North Country since 2001, breaking a string of 12 straight defeats.
The day did not start well for the visitors, as Union could not close out a pair of doubles matches and ended up getting swept in doubles play to give St. Lawrence (15-3, 3-3 Liberty League) the opening point. But Union responded in the best way possible, sweeping all six singles matches to emphatically earn the win.
