Jacobs and Sosa Win at First Doubles against #10 RPI

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to ITA #10 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Liberty League action on Tuesday afternoon at the Union Tennis Courts.
 
The highlight of the day for Union (5-12, 1-5 Liberty League) came at first doubles, where senior Ben Jacobs and first-year Jesus Sosa dealt Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Andy Zhu only their third loss of the seasonby a 6-2 score. Going up against the top-ranked tandem in the region and the #12 pair in the country, Jacobs and Sosa won the first five games of the day before earning their third break of the the match to off the win.
 
Sosa had the closest singles match of the day as well, dropping a 6-3, 6-4 match to Zhu at second singles. Sophomore Daniel Saxe had a 6-4 set of his own against Tasmay Shah at the fifth flight before falling 6-1 in the second set.
 
Union will close out the road portion of its schedule on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Rochester Institute of Technology.
