ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team came up one match short for the third time in Liberty League play this season, falling by a 4-3 score to #59 Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at the Midtown Athletic Club.
Union (5-13, 1-6 Liberty League) is eliminated from postseason contention with the loss, the team's third 4-3 defeat in seven conference matches this season. RIT (8-8, 5-3 Liberty League) remains in a tie for third place in the conference standings with the win.
The Garnet Chargers started the day off well, taking two of the three doubles matches to grab the opening point. Senior

Jesus Sosa started off with a 6-1 victory over Christian Berko and Grahith Movva at the top flight, and the tandem of senior
Seth Prusko and sophomore
Solen Bellemare clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Alec Turcotte and Gabriel Escobar, coming back from 3-4 down thanks to a pair of service breaks.
Singles play was not kind to Union, however, as the Tigers earned four of the first five points to pull off the comeback win. Jacobs came up a break short in both sets of his third-singles match with Turcotte, falling by the same 6-4 score in both frames. Sophomore
Solen Bellemare kept Union's hopes alive temporarily at the fourth flight, posting a pair of 6-3 sets to defeat Joel Pho.
First-year
Arhan Gupta fought until the end in his sixth-singles match versus Alexander Sinclair, coming from a set down to win in a supertiebreaker, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).
Union will close out the 2024-25 season tomorrow at 3 p.m., as the team celebrates Senior Day before a matchup against Skidmore at the Union Tennis Courts.
