ITHACA, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team had its three-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday, as the Garnet Chargers dropped a hard-fought 5-2 match to Ithaca College in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Glazer Arena.
Union (5-8, 1-1 Liberty League) saw five different players win one match each on the afternoon, but the visitors dropped five of the six singles matches to see their winning streak come to an end.
The day started well for Union, with the visitors taking two of the three doubles matches to grab the opening point. After Ithaca (4-6, 2-1 Liberty League) earned a win at the second flight, senior
Ben Jacobs and first-year
Jesus Sosa evened doubles play with a 6-2 win over Gijs Fidler and Siddharth Desai at the top flight by a 6-2 score. Senior
Austin Gregory and first-year
Vivaan Gupta clinched the point for the Garnet Chargers with a 7-6 (7-5) third-doubles win over Ean Lantzy and Luisa Crespo.
The momentum did not carry into singles play, however, as the Bombers won each of the top five flights to clinch the win. Union's lone singles win came at sixth singles, where first-year
Arhan Gupta won the first set 6-1 and then outlasted Lantzy in a third-set supertiebreaker, 10-7.
Union will make a quick turnaround to take on Hobart College tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Geneva.
