Women's Soccer Blanks Plattsburgh in 4-0 Victory

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Union College women's soccer team blanked Plattsburgh State University in a commanding 4-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Field House Soccer Complex.

Union (3-1-1) struck early, scoring three times in the opening half. The Garnet Charger's first tally came six minutes into the game when junior Taylor Bovardi sent a cross from the right side to the center of the box in which senior Vanessa Jorgensen one-touched the ball over the goalkeeper's head.

Eight minutes later, senior Sophia Surber sent a beautiful cross from the right flank to the edge of the goalkeeper's box, where senior Anabelle Thomas headed the ball into the net for Union's second goal.

The final goal of the half came nine minutes later when Surber sent a pinpoint ball forward to Bovardi, who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper into the back of the net to make it 3-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Union added their fourth and final goal with 10 minutes remaining in the game. After a failed clear attempt by Plattsburgh State, sophomore Addison MacDonald picked up the loose ball and fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box in the top center of the net into the back of the net.

Bovardi picked up her second multiple point game of her career contributing a goal and assist while Surber registered two assists to record her first multi-point game of her career.

Junior goalkeeper Maya Koster played 66 minutes tallying one save while senior goalkeeper Rachel Berliner finished the game for the Garnet Chargers playing 23 minutes.

Union returns to action Wednesday, traveling to Middlebury for a 4:30 pm kickoff.
