SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College women's soccer team blanked SUNY Oneonta, 6-0, on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.
The Garnet Chargers (4-2-1) scored three goals in quick succession at the beginning of the first half to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The first goal came just 23 seconds into the game, when senior
Anabelle Thomas capitalized on a loose ball just outside the goalkeeper's box and rifled a shot into the top left corner.
Union doubled their lead two minutes later when Thomas sent a cross to senior
Vanessa Jorgensen, who buried a shot into the lower-right corner of the net.
The Garnet Chargers extended their lead seven minutes later when senior
Alayna Boileau threaded a through ball to Thomas, who buried her second goal of the day.
Union scored three final goals late to conclude the first half.
In the 36th minute, sophomore
Julia Bancheri pounced on a rebound off the Oneonta goalkeeper and buried a shot into the right side of the net.
First-year
Maeve Moran netted the first goal of her career in the 41st minute, finishing a cross from junior
Hannah Sams. Classmate
Dakota Hebert also tallied her first career goal a minute later, striking from outside the 18-yard box off another well-placed pass from Sams.
Union added six more shots in the second half, but the early scoring outburst stood as the difference in the decisive 6-0 result.
Thomas's two goals and one assist marked a career high in single-game points and her second career multi-point performance.
Senior goalkeeper
Rachel Berliner made five saves to record the shutout. She has not allowed a goal in more than a year, spanning over 760 minutes of play since the 2024 season opener.
Union returns to action Wednesday afternoon at College Park Field for a non-conference match up against Eastern Connecticut State University. Kick off is set for 5:00 pm.Â
