SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Seniors Anabelle Thomas and Alayna Boileau, along with junior Taylor Bovardi, each scored to lift the Union College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday evening at College Park Field.
Union wasted no time getting on the board, striking 13 minutes into the match. Thomas delivered a cross to Bovardi, who slipped a shot into the left side of the net past the Warriors' goalkeeper.
The Garnet Chargers nearly doubled the lead at the 40th minute when Boileau redirected a cross off the bottom of the crossbar, but the ball stayed out. Union carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Union capitalized again. Bovardi fired a shot toward the left corner, and Thomas slid in to redirect the ball into the net.
Union sealed the win with four minutes remaining, when sophomore Julia Bancheri fed Boileau, who rifled a shot into the top-center of the net to make it 3-0.
The Garnet Chargers controlled the match offensively, outshooting the Warriors 17-5.
Thomas recorded her second straight multi-point performance with a goal and assist, following a two-goal, one-assist effort in Saturday's 6-0 Senior Day win over SUNY Oneonta. Bovardi's goal and assist marked her second multi-point game of the season and the third of her career.
Senior goalkeeper Rachel Berliner and junior goalkeeper Maya Koster combined for the shutout, each playing a half and making one save.
Union opens Liberty League play on Saturday, traveling to Clarkson University for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
